Background
Accion is the exclusive lending partner for the EPA and Port Authority of NY & NJ's Truck Replacement Program (TARP). TARP helps drivers and owner/operators replace their old, polluting trucks with newer, more energy efficient models with the support of 25% grant from the EPA and a loan for the remainder from Accion.
About the Job:
ACCION USA is looking for a NYC EPA Microlending Intern. S/he will work closely with the Accion loan consultants to grow and strengthen the lending portfolio. From the beginning of the microlending process, s/he will provide outreach and intake while assisting in the stages of document collection and final disbursal.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Accompany loan consultants on visits to the port, trucking companies, and truck dealerships;
- Call prospective clients and truck companies to inform them about the programs and assist them in their loan applications;
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful customer service to clients' inquiries about Accion's loan program and requirements;
- Work directly with loan applicants to obtain application information and documentation for individuals who pre-qualify for a small business loan;
- Assist in financial analysis and review loan documentation regarding applicants’ financial ability to repay a loan.
Qualifications:
- Spanish language proficiency required – particularly strong phone skills;
- Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Commitment to the field of microfinance and Accion;
- Knowledge of credit and/or small business a plus.
